Swedish Cortus delivers new environmentally friendly gasification technology to Nordkalk
2010-08-23 Cortus AB and Nordkalk AB has signed a twelve year contract for supply of biogas to the Nordkalk factory in Köping, Sweden. Cortus innovative gasification technology WoodRoll will reduce energy costs and lower greenhouse effect of the Nordkalk operations. The Biogas from Cortus reduces Nordkalk’s consumption of coal as an energy source for the benefit of renewable energy. The deal initially involves the construction of a 5 MW demonstration plant, with delivery scheduled to start the second half of 2011. After two years the plan is to expand the facility to 25 MW and thus becomes the dominant energy source for the Köping factory. By extension, it means that Cortus will supply biogas to Nordkalk corresponding to a reduction in carbon emissions by 70 000 tons annually at full capacity. The transaction is subject to Cortus financing the construction of the plant in Köping.
"We have for years sought to future energy supplies for our lime kilns. Gasification of biomass has long been the focus but it is only when we have seen results from the gasification process WoodRoll by Cortus, that we have chosen the road of our future energy supply, "says Michael Wendel, Technical Director at Nordkalk in Sweden.
